PYLOD explores the relationship between human and machine, staged as a spectacle against the backdrop of nature. The theme has deep roots in mythology and literature, where the relationship between creator and created is a recurring and timeless motif. The human brings the machine to life, yet the question of who ultimately serves whom remains unresolved. In a time marked by technological autonomy and an increasingly threatened natural environment, these questions resonate with urgency.
This dynamic unfolds through a cinematic collage of abstract imagery and an expressive soundscape, in
which the anatomy of the machine and its parallel existence are revealed. Created through human imagination and embedded within a vast alpine massif, the machine, a ski lift, carries out its task with sovereign precision and a tireless rhythm, suggesting a will of its own. Encountering the machine as a seductive organism also becomes a confrontation with deeper layers of the human mind.
Associations of unease, longing, loss, powerlessness, and solitude emerge within images drawn from a monumental, frozen mountain landscape. In this way, a sensory experience takes shape in which the machine confronts the audience as both mirror and projection surface for existential questions.
The film is structured as a circular edit, beginning where it ends and lending itself to continuous loop presentation. This mirrors the machine's own cyclical movement while reinforcing the film's deeper preoccupation with repetition; mechanical, natural, and existential.
