under a blue sky

The photographic triptychs depict an alienated landscape, a man-made terrain shaped by ideological and socioeconomic struggles. Burning mountains, the result of intensive mining, rise from the wounded earth, reminding us of the lives sacrificed for economic gain. Countless people have lost their lives in this place, and lives continue to be lost in this heavily industrialized region, so marked by history.

The work addresses themes of deportation, belonging and identity against a dystopian industrial backdrop in Eastern Europe. It touches on the colonial exploitation of natural resources and explores a shared history of trauma that has affected millions of families during and after the Second World War. These experiences remain present in the conflicts and realities of today.

The triptych was shown at Høstutstillingen 2022 at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, and at Østlandutstillingen 2024 at Kunstbanken Senter for Samtidskunst in Hamar and Vestfold Kunstsenter in Tønsberg, where it was also part of the seminar «Krig og Landskap».
