Ukraina XVII, XIV, X, XL in the exhibition Lucia, Blomqvist, 2017

The group exhibition “Lucia” was shown at Blomqvist in Oslo
in March 2017. The various works explored the subjective perception of light, and all the participating artists use photography as their primary medium.
“Lucia” received several reviews and was curated by Kristian Skylstad.
My contribution consisted of four framed tricolour photographs, taken in eastern Ukraine in 2013 as part of the long-term project “Erde, Feuer, Wind, Wasser”. Each image is made from three separate exposures on black and white film, taken through filters in the primary colours of light, and later merged into a single colour image. Hung in a row, in frames of different sizes, they formed a deliberate rhythm, held together
by a continuous horizon line. The smallest work, placed in the middle, has a clear geographical reference. It shows traces of life and divides the group in two, with a young forest on the left and terrain shaped by heavy industry on the right. The young forest suggests hope in a region marked by crisis.
