“Dolomitt” records my first encounter with the Alpine mountains, in the Dolomites in 1995, and marks the beginning of the project that later became the cinematic collage “Pylod”. The photographs were taken around the Sella massif and beneath the Marmolada glacier, from a distance, much like the webcams that watch over the slopes.

The images are built up line by line, as an analogue television once formed its picture. A Polaroid film chosen for the purpose reduces the colours to an almost monochrome rendering of reality and gives the views the gaze of a machine. The interest lies in the mechanical world and the autonomous life it leads among the mountains.

The finished works were presented as oversized screens. Seen up close, the lines of the image become visible and the landscape dissolves into its structure. Seen from a distance, it returns as a view on a monitor, observed rather than experienced. At Galleri Fimbul in Oslo in 2005, the screens were shown alongside cinematic collages and drawings.
